I personally LOVED the kimchi fritter focaccia sandwich, absolutely delicious! The vegan chicken and mushroom pasty is fantastic too, perfect for packing in your backpack and enjoying as a lunch on a hike.

To find this hidden gem, take the A593 road from Ambleside for 4.5 km (2.8 miles), heading through Clappersgate towards Little Langdale. Chester’s is just past the sign for the Skelwith Bridge Hotel on your right.

Free parking is available on site.

There’s also a delightful gift shop stocked with homeware, cards, and charming trinkets from local Lake District businesses, well worth a browse whilst you’re there.

Chester’s By The River is ideal for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or a coffee before a walk in Langdale. You could even explore the lovely Skelwith Bridge to Elterwater track nearby.
